(September 13, 2006)..An awards ceremony today (Wednesday, 9/13/06) at the Central Illinois Regional Airport will honor recipients of this year’s Transportation Security Administration Honorary Awards for Central Illinois .  Several recipients are slated to receive awards including individuals and local organizations. 

 

The TSA Honorary Incentive Awards Program is to recognize and reward TSA employees and external partners for outstanding acts and performance that have supported TSA strategic goals. 

 

Patrick Broderick, Federal Security Director for the region, will be on hand to distribute the awards.  The event will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the Airport Authority Board Room on the second floor of the main terminal building at the Central Illinois Regional Airport , 3201 CIRA Drive, Suite 200 , Bloomington . 

 

“The recipients of these awards were selected from the eight commercial airports served by TSA throughout the region,” stated Broderick.  “We feel it is appropriate to acknowledge the hard work and customer service exhibited by these individuals and organizations to enhance the customer experience and safety of air travel locally.”

 

2006 TSA Honorary Award Recipients at Central Illinois Regional Airport Include:

 

Bethany Nelson-“TSO of the Year” Award

This award honors the TSO that exhibits exemplary achievement in the area of customer satisfaction and transportation security.  This TSO provides courteous and professional service while ensuring the highest quality of protection to all passengers and customers. 

 

Brock Nissen and James Eitel–“Leadership” Award

This award recognizes an employee for outstanding meritorious service to TSA in the pursuit of the core values of integrity, innovation, and teamwork while producing outstanding results significant to transportation security.

 

Don ald Keifer and Brian Armstrong - “Security” Award

This award recognizes accomplishments that promote security and intelligence gathering and dissemination activities in the furtherance of preventing terrorism and protecting the U.S. transportation infrastructure.

 

Nicole Dickey- “Customer Service” Award

This category recognizes those who provide or foster a culture that nurtures world-class customer service.

 

Dawn Gullet, Thomas Lyons, and Tanya Bould- “Dependability” Award

This award recognizes those who demonstrated outstanding attendance.

 

2006 TSA Honorary External Award Recipients Include:

McLean County Sheriff's Department- "Law Enforcement" Award 

This award recognizes outstanding accomplishments that promote law enforcement in the protection of the U.S. transportation infrastructure through investigative activities. 

 

Achievements include, but are not limited to:

·        Opened a command substation that provides connectivity to law enforcement database systems;

·        Added two (two) full-time officers to provide 14hrs of on-site service through a reimbursement agreement with DHS; 

·        Recovered three (3) stolen vehicles located at the airport;

·        Served as a visible and physical deterrence curbside and inside the terminal;

·        Investigated five (5) instances where individuals attempted to circumvent security procedures;

·        Assisted in the interception and removal of 34 deadly/dangerous items over the course of a year;

·        Participated in activities promoting law enforcement cooperation with interagency, State, and local law enforcement officials;

·        Assisted with review of identification and verification for federal, state and local law enforcement officers traveling armed;

·        Reviewed data base checks for criminal/terrorism info rmation on persons involved in incidents;

·        Investigated and seized contraband discovered during the passenger screening process;

·        Performed terminal sweeps, parking lot checks, and general perimeter inspections.

 

Central Illinois Regional Airport - "Partnership" Award

This award recognizes industry partners whose accomplishments and excellence in performance distinctly benefit the interests of the United States and clearly advance TSA’s mission to protect the nation’s transportation systems, while significantly enhancing TSA’s ability to achieve its strategic goals.  

 

Achievements include, but are not limited to:

·         Increased communication through monthly security meetings with airport stakeholders;

·         Reduced access to security sensitive areas within the airport;

·         Raised awareness by developing a security plan that outlined security expectations for commercial tenants located in Air Operations Area;

·         Conducted thorough audits of access media, records, keys and performed Criminal History Record Check reviews for those working in the Secure Identification Display Area;

·         Worked with McLean County Sheriff's Department to increase Law Enforcement visibility through a reimbursable agreement for additional resources;

·         Responded quickly to security incidents and took precautionary measures when necessary;

·          And CIRA has hardened perimeter security at vehicle access points that lead to critical areas.
