CIRA Airlines add flights for Spring/Summer Travel

More Options for Travelers with Additional Flights from Bloomington-Normal  

BLOOMINGTON, IL (Monday, March 8, 2010)…The Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA) will welcome new flights this spring and summer just in time for the start of the busy travel season.  Beginning April 6, American will add one daily roundtrip to Chicago O’Hare and Delta will add two daily roundtrips to Detroit , Michigan .  Delta will also resume nonstop flights to Minneapolis-St. Paul, offering two daily roundtrips beginning June 10th.  Currently, American offers three flights to Chicago O’Hare and one daily nonstop to Dallas-Ft. Worth. Delta offers one flight to Detroit and four flights to Atlanta , Georgia .   

“This is a boost for air travel options from the Central Illinois Regional Airport , “said Paul Harmon, Chairman of the Bloomington-Normal Airport Authority. “To add flights that translate to 250 more seats daily on two of the world’s largest airlines provides central Illinois travelers with the ability to reach hundreds of destinations on the most convenient schedule possible.“  

The new flights will all be served by fifty seat regional jets to the airlines’ major hubs with connections available on American and Delta mainline service.  American’s Chicago O’Hare service will be operated by Chautaqua Airlines as American Connection on Embraer regional jets.  Delta flights to Detroit and Minneapolis-St. Paul will be operated by Pinnacle Airlines as Delta Connection on Canadair regional jets.  

“The airport has experienced a positive growth trend in passenger traffic in the last several months and the addition of these new flights will help us build on that momentum.” said Carl Olson, Executive Director of the Central Illinois Regional Airport . “We are very pleased to have the nonstop Minneapolis service return this summer with two daily flights, providing easy access to the northwest. “
